Impressive Kitchen Design Details

In this episode of Site Visit with NS Builders, I take you back to our Rhode Island project and show you two thoughtfully designed details in the kitchen that are going to make a huge impact visually. Be prepared to feel a twinge of envy!

THE COUNTERTOP THAT DISAPPEARS INTO A WINDOW

Framing is just starting for the kitchen and we’re going to have floor-to-ceiling custom cabinetry by Materia Millwork. But there are a few other details that will make this kitchen truly special. First, the countertop will run along the wall all the way to the huge corner-unit window overlooking the river. This unique design will have a dramatic impact—making the countertop look like it is disappearing into the window. It’s details like these that come to life when your client is also a talented architect!

AN UNUSUAL ISLAND

Julia, the homeowner/architect and Ken DeCost, Materia Millwork, have come up with a design for an unusual island that is sure to impress. They will select a natural wood slab at Berkshire Products and the island will be fabricated in the shop. It will be completely waterfalled up, across the top, and back down the other side. But instead of cabinets built from floor to the counter, the cabinets are going to be suspended. This will require a steel substructure inside to support the live edge slab. The cabinetry will appear as though it is just floating.

NS Builders focuses on really listening to our clients—finding out what matters to them in terms of style, function, and design—and then we do everything in our power to make that happen.
