Final Prepping for Concrete

In this episode of Site Visit with NS Builders, I head back to Needham and meet up with Mike to review the layout for the foundation. The backfilling and prepping of the bottom of the hole are complete—stone is in, the hole is dry, and we’re ready to go!

PINNING THE FOUNDATION WALLS

Our surveyor was on site and got all of the locations for the foundation walls pinned. Mike has diligently gone through and double-checked all the dimensions to make sure it jives with the plans. In addition, Mike will meet with the concrete contractor and discuss the footing layout as well—and the footing dimensions vary. The structural plans will call for various footing dimensions based on how much weight is being placed on a particular area.

After we figure out the footings, the surveyor will return and then pin the foundation locations on top of our footings.

CONCRETE IS ON ITS WAY

Rebar will be delivered, and the concrete contractor will be here soon to form the footings and get those poured. Once the footings are stripped, we’ll spray the top of the footing with a capillary break or possibly Fastfoot—a new footing membrane we’d like to try out.

Next, we’ll bring in more stone for filling in around the footing and get the interior drainage done. And once the foundation walls are poured and stripped, we’ll add a continuous layer of waterproofing around the entire main foundation. I’m excited for the next Site Visit on this project—I can’t wait to see those concrete walls up!
